Backlit Ballerina

Here’s an image that was made in lighting conditions that I usually don’t bother with. Almost all of the light was coming from behind the girl, and that means there will some compromising.
Fortunately, the floor in front of her and the table to the side of her just happened to reflect enough light to bring the shot out of the silhouette realm (since I don’t really like dramatic sihouettes), and into the low key lighting realm. There are elements that I wish had turned out better in this image. I wish the girl’s foot (on our right) had been caught in a different position, because as it is it looks a bit odd.
I also had hoped to catch her body in a more dynamic stance. It appears a bit too stagnant here… I keep wanting her to have more bend to her body, or to have been traveling off to the side… or something. I’m posting it as this week’s image because I like the overall effect, while letting the details slide. haha.

Tech info: Handheld Fuji S2, 35mm f2.0 lens, set to f2.0, at 1/90th sec., ISO 200, B/W Mode, Fine JPEG, Org Tone, Standard Sharp, AWB, Manual exposure mode. To meter I watched my in-camera meter scale while I pointed the lens at the floor. Once I knew what the camera wanted in order to expose correctly for the floor, I adjusted aperture and shutter speed in order to set an overall exposure. I checked the LCD screen after a test shot, and fine tuned it one more time to get final settings. Didn’t bother checking the histogram because the hightlights (the windows on the doors) were going to be off the charts anyway, and I didn’t care about blowing them out.
